High-end racing is all about working around rules that severely limit engine modifications, and that’s definitely the case in NHRA Stock Eliminator. The trick is coming out on top, and Austin Ford of Houston, Texas does just that with the help of potent engines built by SAM. Austin’s ’67 Shelby Mustang clone runs in D/Stock Automatic and holds the national class record with a 10.58 at 123 mph pass. NHRA rules require a production intake, carburetor, compression ratio, and cylinder heads, but students and instructors have squeezed enough power out of the Mustang’s 428 to keep it up front.
